There are all kinds of reasons for what motivates people to take charge and eat better.
The most popular one is probably to LOOSE WEIGHT. While this is a great reason, it isn’t always the easiest to sustain. My ideal weight for me right now at this stage of my life is 120-123 pounds. When the scale jumps “weigh” past that, (caught the pun?!) it is time for me to get serious and loose some weight. In the past, I have had great success using a combination of The South Beach Diet and WeightWatchers. Starting off doing The South Beach Diet cuts my cravings for the “naughty” foods I so love to eat in excess. Then, once I’ve gotten back in control of my eating, WeightWatchers helps to keep me on track. It takes about a month using both of these methods, for me to see real progress and get me back to my best weight. I feel and look leaner and have more energy to do the things I love to do.
Another good reason to eat healthy is because of HEALTH ISSUES. Sometimes, we are forced to make a change with our eating habits because of medical conditions that strike or that are well on their way to interfering with our lives. Diabetes, cancer, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, low iron, low calcium, High Cholesterol, etc. are some of the examples of health issues that need serious attention. In most instances, these conditions can be greatly improved, reduced or even eliminated when we eat the right foods.
The best reason to eat healthy is simply to MAINTAIN GOOD HEALTH. When you choose to become educated and put in to place healthy eating, you will feel better, look better, have more energy, improve body function, and live longer. Who doesn’t want these wonderful benefits, especially as we age?
Besides maintaining sustainable good health, my main motivation is my first grandchild, Jack. This adorable, smart, happy, blue-eyed wonder came in to our lives last year on his mom’s (our daughter’s) birthday. Jack has reminded me about the wonders of life. I definitely want to be around a long, long, LONG time and actively be a part of Jack’s life adventures as well as those of future grandchildren to come. The best way to insure this, is to eat healthy each and every day.
