The New Year is the perfect time to fine tune social media channels.
A tweet I came across by The Washington Post suggested to give your Facebook profile the once over.
What should you be doing to refresh a Facebook profile? Go through and update everything under your home tab, namely your Account Settings and your Privacy Settings. I bet the last time you paid attention to this area was when you first set up your Facebook account, which for me was in 2007. . What better time than the new year to make sure your information is up to date, current, and relevant. Are you in the same occupation as when you started Facebook. This is an important resource to have current especially for networking. What about your favorites? I bet you have acquired new movies, music, and books that you would like to share.
After making these minor corrections, I got to thinking that I should probably be paying some attention to the other areas of my social media life and clean house with them as well.
Last year, I had a lot of activity ordering items and getting information from various vendors using my email account. Well, I’m sure you know. that once you purchase or even just inquire with a vendor, that establishment hooks on to your email account and they begin sending you endless emails, announcements, and other tidbits. The lazy way to deal with it is to simply delete or move to spam every time you see that vendor pop up . But that takes extra valuable time to do that and heaven only knows, we are all short on extra valuable time. So, being the new year and all, I decided to go through my emails and actually unsubscribe to all of those accounts that I have no need for now. This does take a little bit of time. You have to scroll down to the bottom of their email, click on unsubscribe, and then click another time or two to make sure you have been completely unsubscribed. Some vendors don’t make it easy but in the long run, you are better off for your effort. I am starting the new year off receiving emails that I truly care about and not a lot of junk.
The new year is a good time to review who you are following on Twitter as well as who is following you, and make additions/corrections as needed. Are you getting and sharing information with relevant accounts? Also, who are your favorite Twitter accounts to follow? Look who is following them and add them to your list of who you want to follow. Chances are, they have similar interests and you will grow your followers with accounts that have meaningful content.
The new year is the perfect time to fine tune social media accounts and skills and make the necessary adjustments for a more proactive social media experience.
