Entertaining=whenever there is more than just the two of us at a meal
Del Real Foods gave me some of their product to sample and have provided a Party in a Box #giveaway package for one of my lucky readers. The opinions expressed are my own.
With my husband’s new diagnosis to be wheat, oat and rye free, I have had to rethink my cooking to accommodate his condition. That’s OK for when it is just the two of us; we put up with the hit and misses of his new gluten free lifestyle. But what do we do now when we want to invite guests to join us for a meal? We can’t expect them to go gluten free too. Or can we?
To keep things simple, I’ve begun serving our guests a gluten free meal. And if I hadn’t pointed it out, I doubt they would have noticed that the dishes were actually gluten free. Most of the dishes I create are made from scratch so that way I am assured everything meets my husband’s dietary restrictions. But the other night, company was coming. I had been gone all day and didn’t have time to fix a home cooked meal. Luckily, I had some Del Real Mexican food in my freezer and in a matter of minutes, I was able to serve my guests an entire authentic Mexican meal that was delicious, healthy and all gluten free!!
We have tried and loved Del Real food in the past so when they approached me and asked me to try some of their new dishes, I didn’t hesitate – that is until I remembered my husband’s new dietary needs. But not to fear: besides being convenient, wholesome, and delicious, most of Del Real foods are gluten free!! Yippee!!
What did I serve in a hurry?
I love how Del Real foods are ready to eat in just 3-5 minutes. All I have to do is heat it up in the microwave in the containers that come with the food. While the taco kit and rice were heating up, I chopped some cilantro and onions, sliced some limes, and added some guacamole and cheese. My yummy meal was ready to serve. What did my guests think of my gluten free, authentic Mexican meal from Del Real? Sister Thornley from Weston, Idaho said, “I have never had street tacos before. They were great. The rice was my favorite—tasted homemade, just like my mom’s.” Sister Cameron of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, remarked, “I’m not familiar with tacos (you don’t see them much in Canada) and I loved them!! I don’t like spicy and the tacos had just enough kick to make them tasty. I especially liked how the pork was cubed. It made it easier to eat.”
And my gluten free husband? “I liked it all. Can’t believe something so good was gluten free and that there were no preservatives. It all tasted good –which you can’t say for a lot of the gluten free we have tried.”
We will definitely be eating a lot more of Del Real foods – company or not.
