Don’t you just love it when you come across a product that actually works to hide your faults (the stuff you have no control over)?
I suffer from a proverbial red patch across my nose and cheeks. I’ve had it for as long as I can remember due to my family’s presupposition to the autoimmune disease, Lupus. I don’t have the full blown disease (yet) as my grandmother and aunt suffered from. Just some of the pre-symptoms like my permanent raccoon rash. (Do you know how many times I have been asked if I left my sunglasses on in the sun?)
Needless to say, I’ve tried no less than a zillion products to help reduce my condition: concealers, green concealer, darker foundations, serums–you name it, I’ve tried it and spent a ton of money in the process. Some of these items “sort of” helped to minimize the red, but nothing really covered it up sufficiently.
Now that I am over 50, it seems the skin on my face is getting less supple and so my red patch is getting even more pronounced. I gave up on using liquid foundations because they just seem to drag down my complexion and accentuate lines and wrinkles. I switched to using mineral powder instead as a foundation. I really like its lighter texture and feel. Unfortunately, the lighter texture and feel also means lighter coverage. Hello raccoon face. Ugh.
At my wits end, I went in to my local Sephora and explained to the salesperson my problem and how it seemed to be getting even more pronounced the older I got. She listened patiently and then asked, “Have you tried a BB cream? I replied: NO. Had no clue what she was referring to. (My best reference for BB’s up to this point had to do with the guns) She proceeded to explain that a BB cream is an age defense cream, with an SPF, that conceals in an instant and works to help prevent premature signs of aging. It reduces the appearance of lines and wrinkles on contact. Antioxidants help defend against environmental factors. Anti-irritants instantly help soothe while moisture comforts the skin (aka-helps with my obnoxious red tone). Because it is long-wearing and oil-free, anyone can use it. In conclusion, BB cream helps skin feel soft, smooth, look brighter, perfected, and stay younger longer. Wow-all that, I thought. Sign me up. As with anything else, there were several brands offering the BB cream in several different shades. I chose the middle of the road one price wise with a name I was familiar with: Clinique. She helped me choose a compatible color for my skin tone and sent me on my way with an ample sample to give it a try. (I’ve been there before)
My sample lasted a month– a dab will do it– so I automatically liked how it was very economical. And the results? Man, was I impressed. Not only did it practically hide all of the red, my skin felt softer. I also really appreciated the SPF 30 and the antioxidants. I was sold!!
You know if I am going to share before and after pictures, with nothing on my face but the BB cream, I am not only brave but also totally satisfied:
I guess, sometimes you just have to wait for science and technology to catch up, before you find the right answer.
