Everyone needs a little self-improvement, right? That’s why I’ve set a personal challenge for the month of July to tweak here and there areas in my life that need some extra attention. Nothing radical mind you. Just little things I can do to bring more clarity, more joy, and more vitality to improve my daily routine. Here I go….
Day 1: Lose Weight Sensibly
My problem: I am very aware and generally try to practice the proven, healthy formula to keep pounds off:
Fewer Calories + Exercise = Weight Loss
Unfortunately, I have really noticed lately that the older I get, the harder it is for me to shed unwanted pounds. What does age have to do with it? Aging naturally decreases muscle mass (which burns more calories) and increases body fat (which burns fewer calories).
Now, I’m not talking about wanting to be super skinny. The improvement I am looking for is to fit comfortably in all the clothes in my closet plus have a little more energy. I just want to get rid of those extra 8 pesky pounds.
I’ve tried restrictive diets (boring), boot camp (exhausting), and countless other remedies with little success. Truthfully, my best weight loss strategy lately has been not eating; skipping meals here and there to lose a few pounds. Not only has that been unsatisfying, I know it is not healthy.
My goal: Improve my health by losing those extra pounds safely.
My plan: Take Garcinia Cambogia twice daily for one month.
What is garcinia cambogia? A natural product made from the rind of the tamarind fruit. This fruit is full of anti-oxidants and other ingredients that help in combating fat and reducing the effects of aging (win-win!!!). It isn’t really new. It has been available in weight loss products for years. Dr. Oz has certainly brought more attention to it the past couple of years:

Two BIG questions I had before I started using garcinia cambogia:
1) How exactly does it help me? The HCA extract from garcinia cambogia aids in weight loss by doing two things: It helps to block fat, and it suppresses appetite. HCA blocks fat by inhibiting a key enzyme that your body needs to make fat from carbohydrates: Citrate lyase. Usually carbohydrates or sugars that are not used immediately or stored in other forms are converted into fats. When HCA inhibits citrate lyase, the fat-making process is halted and the production of LDL (bad cholesterol) and triglycerides decrease. HCA also suppresses appetite by increasing serotonin levels. Serotonin is a neurotransmitter in the brain that makes you feel good. It’s a target of many antidepressant medications. Low levels of serotonin tend to make people feel depressed or anxious, driving some into emotional or reactive eating. By increasing serotonin levels, HCA improves mood and suppresses the drive to react to stressful situations with food. The body senses less is being eaten and so it releases stored fat in the fat cells.
2) Is it dangerous? I wouldn’t dare try it if it was. The only cautions I found are for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding and for anyone suffering from Alzheimer’s disease. Another benefit of garcinia cambogia I researched was that it helps lower cholesterol. My cholesterol level has been steadily increasing even though I generally eat right and exercise 6 days a week so my doctor recently prescribed a statin drug to help with that. I’m going to hold off on the medicine while I use the garcinia cambogia but if you’ve had a long-term, high-level cholesterol problem, I would consult your doctor first.
As I see it, I am using garcinia cambogia to jump-start my weight loss goal and improve my health. I will keep you posted on how the results are going. My goal is to lose those 8 pounds in one month. My husband was also curious about using the product so he wanted to try garcinia cambogia too. He wants to improve his health and well-being by losing 22 pounds. Since men generally seem to have an easier time losing weight, I will be curious to see what his results will be compared to mine.
